Yesterday I had the opportunity to listen to the Food Babe speak at the Green Festival in Los Angeles and I had the opportunity to meet her.
Vani Hari is best known as “The Food Babe.” For most of her life, she ate anything she wanted. She ate the Standard American Diet (SAD.) She was a candy addict, drank soda, seldom ate green vegetables, ate fast-food, and ate processed food. Her Standard American diet landed her where that diet typically does, in a hospital. It was in the hospital that she decided to make her health her number one priority.
Vani used her new found inspiration for living a healthy life to drive her energy into investigating what is really in our food, how is it grown and what chemicals are used in its production. She had to teach herself everything. As her began to learn more, she was no longer duped by big business marketing tactics, confused by lengthy food labels, and it became easier for her to live in this over-processed world. Most importantly, the more she learned and the more lessons she put into action, the better she felt and wanted to tell everyone about it!
Vani started her blog April 2011 to share her healthy lifestyle with her family and friends. Through reading the investigations and information she posts on her blog, FoodBabe.com, you can expect to learn the truth about harmful ingredients in processed foods and how to avoid the stuff the food industry is trying to hide.
When she began her blog, she did not know that it would change the world. She mentioned that her first name means “voice” in her native language. She never thought she would be the person to carry the voice of millions. Over the last three years, FoodBabe.com has become a powerful vehicle for change due to the dedication of those that read and share the information they learn on her blog. She advised that we all continue to learn by doing our own food investigating and to share this information with everyone we know. With knowledge comes power. Even though the Food Industry think they can dup us, when we stand together, our voices will be heard!
Creating FoodBabe.com has shown her that it is possible to change the world. She mentioned, “That when we all vote with our dollars by choosing to buy products that are sustainably produced, we actively shape the market place. Companies have no choice but to respond to us and improve the quality of their products.”
Note: her most recent investigation exposes Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte – it does not even contain pumpkin!
