5 Popular Essential Oils and Their Uses

Essential oils have been used for many years, both for emotional and physical health. You can use essential oils aromatically, topically and some people add essential oils to food and drinks.

There are many types of oils to use as a carrier oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, almond oil, avocado oil, or sesame oil. People use essential oils due to its inhibitor, antimicrobial and medicated properties. Its use is spreading day by day as it has no side effects and can be considered as a natural solution for physical issues.

There are three ways to use essential oils: diffuse the oil, apply the oil to your body and ingest the oil. You can put a few drops on your feet or shake a few drops on the carpet to make your room smell great. If you have any skin sensitivity, it is best not to apply directly on your skin. Before using any oil make sure it is diluted with a carrier oil as all oils are concentrated.

Here are 5 oils and their use is mentioned as below:

  1. Lavender:

Lavender has soothing and relaxing features. It is mostly used oil and is easily available anywhere in the market. It can be used as a scent to refresh the mind, to relieve stress and tension. By adding 2-3 drops on an insect bite as Lavender helps skin issues. Add 2-3 drops of essential oil to your hands, rub it in your palms and inhale deeply. I call this the human diffuser.  Drop a few drops on your bed pillows before going to sleep which helps you to sleep faster and live in peace.

  1. Lemon:

Lemon oil added in water can be used as a substitute for fresh lime. You can spray it in the room to keep your mind – mood cheerful and the room fresh. It also plays a vital role in cleaning household things. It can be used to remove the smell from dirty clothes while washing. Its odor prevents bad smell in toilets, dustbins, trash cans so can be termed as a good air freshener.

  1. Peppermint:

It is the most flexible oil used all over the world. It is a food energizer; you can use it in tea, or a smoothie.  It also supports the body, and many use it when they feel tired. You will feel happy when you breathe in its bottle.

  1. Sandalwood:

It is one of the expensive oils, but its use is worth it. It possesses a long lasting property. It  helps cool down your mind after inhaling it or applying it on your neck. It also strengthens your body, keeps yourself active and increases your willpower.

  1. Tea Tree:

Tea Tree has a nice fragrance which provides cleaning solutions in the home. It cleans our home appliances. Tea Tree Oil has been known to help skin conditions. It helps get rid of  harmful bacteria. It is also used to reduce body odor.

Taking a bath with your favorite essential oil(s) and epsom salts has emotional and physical benefits: not to mention it is great for detoxing your skin. Massage an essential oil mixed with a carrier oil (i.e. avocado, jojoba, almond, or coconut) on top of  your body either at home or salon to be relaxed and relieve yourself from stress and tension. It also increases your circulation. It can use it as a do-it-yourself conditioner.

CBD and Essential Oils: A Few Mixes You Can Try

In recent years, we have seen the rise of natural products storming the mainstream media. In particular, medical marijuana and CBD products have risen but, most recently, essential oils have hit the headlines. Those who have had zero success treating anxiety or sleep disorders with pharmaceutical medications are finally seeing positive results primarily via the use of CBD oil and, most recently, essential oils. We have all heard of coconut oil, olive oil, and lavender oil working wonders for aromatherapy and possibly even the likes of copaiba essential oil. But what about hemp seed oil or the benefits of CBD oil or even a combination with other essential oils?

With the world in crisis over environmental issues paired with a growing awareness of the harm that toxic medications can do when used for prolonged periods of time, natural medicines and supplements are taking center stage and people are now flocking to give natural remedies a try.

Using CBD with Essential Oils for a Health Boost

As with cannabis and hemp, essential oils have been used for thousands of years for therapeutic purposes, as has the cannabis plant (before it was banned). And while you do not traditionally ingest them to enjoy the benefits they can offer, they can still be used in conjunction with CBD oil, or cannabidiol oil, to effectively supercharge your healing experience. CBD-infused topical balms that contain pure essential oils are becoming increasingly popular, especially among those suffering from skin conditions or pain. And while neither CBD oil nor essential oils can be classified as a medicine, hundreds of thousands of individuals worldwide swear by their own mixes of the two tinctures for ultimate relief and healing.

In this article, we will be taking a look at the best mixes you can try, depending on the condition you are struggling with.

Lavender: A Powerful Sleep Aid

One of the primary reasons that otherwise healthy people are turning to CBD is because of insomnia. Nobody wants to have to deal with a hectic job on a poor night’s sleep and CBD oil has been found to enhance your ability to fall asleep and, most importantly, stay asleep for the whole night. Lavender essential oil has also been used since as long as we can remember to promote relaxation and improve sleep, usually through topical application or via an infuser. Out of all of the essential oils available, lavender seems to be able to combat pretty much everything from stress and anxiety to eczema and sunburn and it is for this reason that it pairs perfectly when used alongside CBD. If you are currently using CBD balm to treat a skin condition, then try adding a few drops of pure lavender oil into the mix—not only will you smell great, you will feel great, too.

Lemon: The Energizer

Although most people associate CBD oil with sleep and relaxation, it can also be used to enhance mental clarity, concentration, and the overall improvement of your energy levels. Micro-dosing CBD is most effective when you need an energy boost and even more so when you add some lemon essential oil into the mix. Remember that only certain essential oils are safe to ingest but lemon oil is one of them. For convenience, you could add a couple of drops of organic lemon oil into your CBD tincture or, alternatively, you could go the completely natural route and boil a couple of lemon rinds in some distilled water and then drink it as your first beverage in the morning.

Eucalyptus-and-Jasmine

Eucalyptus and Jasmine: Anti-Anxiety

CBD has been hailed as having potent anxiolytic effects and a recent study has actually proven that it can successfully combat social anxiety and while it is perfectly capable of flying solo in order to treat feelings of stress and panic, if you combine with an essential oil such as jasmine or eucalyptus, the effect is thought to be faster acting and longer lasting, as reported by current users of this harmonious blend. Eucalyptus oil has a soothing effect, thanks to its powerful minty fresh smell and it also induces a sensation of clarity. When you consider how easy it is to lose yourself in the overwhelming sensation of an impending panic attack, you will likely agree that clarity is key when it comes to navigating an internal storm. Jasmine is another excellent natural weapon for calming the nerves and it is one of the few essential oils that are capable of helping you to relax without inducing feelings of sleepiness. Rather than ingesting these two oils, put a couple of drops on a handkerchief and breathe them in deeply when you need relief or, alternatively, use a diffuser to fill your home or office with the delicious scent.

Conclusion

The world of essential oils is vast and homeopaths worldwide will testify to the power of nature’s elixirs when used correctly, so the oils mentioned above are by no means the only oils you can use in conjunction with CBD. However, if you feel that you could benefit from taking an all-natural approach to your healing, then you will now have a good starting point from which you can begin to experiment with your own mixes of CBD and essential oils.

Essential Oils Vs. Fragrance Oils

The other day I went to my local CVS to grab a few things and I came across the air freshener aisle.  I glanced at the essential oils.  Do you know that these essential oils are not essential oils?! They are fragrance oils. And these items come with a plugin diffuser!
glade use 1
Have you noticed that there are more ads on TV for these products?  What is sad is; because essential oils are so popular, people are deceived by these so-called essential oils.
It is not surprising that fragrance oils are being promoted so much these days.  Fragrance oils are cheaper to produce than quality therapeutic essential oils. There are, of course, some things in common between fragrance oils and therapeutic oils – the primary one being that they both produce aromas! Note: pure essential oils like rose are more expensive because it takes lots of rose petals to produce a high quality oil!
However, there are some things about fragrance oils you should be aware of -especially since they are so popular. Here are some key points to consider when purchasing so-called “natural” essential oils and fragrance oils.
1.  They are made with synthetic/artificial ingredients. Read the label.
2. Natural oils can be called “natural” when they contain 10% pure essential oil.
3. Fragrance oils and synthetic essential oils may clog or confuse the receptor sites of cells.
4. Fragrance oils and synthetic essential oils may have a depressing effect on the immune system.
5. Fragrance oils and synthetic essential oils may lead to headaches and stuffiness especially if you have allergies.
6. Fragrance oils and synthetic essential oils may cause dizziness or other side effects.
In contrast, quality therapeutic essential oils usually are organic or 100% pure.. These essential oils may help support wellness.
There is a big difference between fragrance grade oils and therapeutic grade or pure essential oils. And this difference is worth pointing out since fragrance oils are being promoted so much these days. It’s easy to assume if something smells good or has “essential oils” in its name that it must be quality stuff. But this is often not the case. So, be aware of what you’re buying.
To your health and happiness,
Shaline

How to add Essential Oils into Your Daily Routine

I just love using essential oils and have been using them since 2012! I’ve been using doTERRA’s Serenity Blend and Balance Blend to help me get a good night’s sleep.  And I love diffusing Breathe!  I also use Balance when I feel stressed at work. By the way, I work in residential property management.

Are you concerned that your household cleaners aren’t so clean? Do your children have allergies?  Do these chemicals make you sick?

Essential Oils are an awesome natural, non-toxic alternative!

The labels of many mainstream household products from skin care, toothpastes, hand soap to household cleaning products like spray disinfectants, dishwashing detergent, and laundry detergent contain toxic ingredients that research indicates may be harmful even in small amounts. Think your family deserves better? Note: check out my eBook.  Also, check out the Environmental Working Group, http://www.ewg.org/.

Remember your skin is the largest organ on your body.  What you put on it is quickly absorbed into your body!

Fill your home with body care, shampoo, dental care, and cleaning products you can feel good about using. And these essential oils are natural, healthy additions to your first aid kit, medicine cabinet, and spice cabinet.

Note: After years of research, my favorite essential oils are Taspen Organics, Living Libations, Young Living and Mountain Rose Herbs.  I was first introduced to essential oils, doTERRA in 2012 by a friend and colleague. Dr. Axe has a new line of essentials oils which I haven’t tried yet.

Natural Cleaning Products

Young Living has a line called Thieves, that offers safe, essential oil-infused alternatives for products you use every day. doTERRA has a line, OnGuard that is a safe alternative. There are other companies Mountain Rose Herbs, etc where you can purchase oils to create a cleaning blend.  Note:  Be sure to purchase high quality essential oils!

Forget conventional cleansers formulated with harsh chemicals; safe, effective alternatives are easy to make and use. Alongside the Thieves’ line, you may also want to try using essential oils in your laundry, for cleaning countertops, freshening stale linens, removing stubborn stains, and much more.

The most popular essential oils for cleaning include: Lavender, Lemon, Pine, Cinnamon, Melaleuca, Thieves essential oil blend, and Purification essential oil blend.  Diffuse these oils to keep your home smelling fresh and clear of stale air with healthful air purifying solutions.

Using a diffuser with essential oils makes it easy and convenient to purify the air in your home without using chemical-laden aerosol fresheners. Add 5 drops of Thieves, Peace & Calming, or Purification to your diffuser and allow these clean, refreshing scents to fill your home.

Dental Care

Young Living has a dental line which is formulated to help you keep your teeth healthy, and free from harmful chemicals.  Their line ranges from Thieves Dental Floss and Dentarome Toothpaste to Thieves mouthwash.  Nadine Artemis’ Living Libations Holistic Dental Care line is great too.

First Aid and Medicine Cabinet Makeover

Natural protection for your busy life has no room for sick days! Essential oils offer ideal natural support for a stressed immune system. Essential oils can help you maintain the cold season wellness you need to keep working, playing, and caring for your family. Support your body with these immune-supporting oils like Young Living’s R.C essential oil blend or doTERRA’s Breathe, Thieves essential oil blend, Thieves Hand Purifier, and Breathe Again essential oil blend. Keep Cedarwood on hand for sleep issues, skin problems, and focus issues.

Injuries/Pain Management

Be sure to keep on hand the essential oils that can help make all the difference if a family member is injured or not feeling well. Add these first aid favorites to your collection: Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon, Frankincense, Young Living’s Thieves, R.C., and PanAway  or doTERRA’s OnGuard and Deep Blue essential oil blends.

Emotional Release/Stress/Yoga/Chakra Balancing

Use these oils for emotional imbalances: Peppermint, Lavender, Young Living’s Valor, Peace & Calming, Stress Away, Citrus Fresh,  Joy, and Feelings Kit, or doTERRA’s Aromatherapy System, Serenity, and Balance blends.

Digestive Issues

For digestive distress, use Lemongrass, Peppermint, or Young Living’s DiGize or doTERRA’s DigestZen .

Healthy Cooking

Are you looking to add variety and flavor to your cooking? Make room for essential oils in your spice cabinet! Their rich, bright aromas can add a delicious kick of flavor to your favorite recipes. Try adding a drop of lime to fresh salsa or to your favorite Mexican-inspired marinade, lemon to grilled fish, peppermint to hot cocoa, or basil and oregano to homemade pasta sauce.  Note: remember to dilute oil.

Get creative and enjoy all the culinary possibilities of essential oils. Popular essential oils for cooking include: Peppermint, Basil, Lemon, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Orange, Ginger, and Lemongrass. While certain essential oils can be harmful if taken in high dosages, moderate use as flavoring (1-2 drops) is not only safe but delicious!

Be sure to keep a carrier oil (organic sweet almond, organic jojoba, avocado, grapeseed, or olive oil) on hand to dilute your essential oils.

One of my favorites: Orange vanilla sugar scrub. Use white sugar to make it look and smell like a dreamsicle dessert!  This reminds me of when I used to have Dreamsicle popsicles as a child!

orange sugar scrub ingredients

Ingredients:

1/4 cup of coconut oil

3/4 cup of organic brown sugar or white sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

5 to 10 drops of orange essential oil (I used Mountain Rose Herb’s Orange Sweet Essential Oil.)

orange vanilla sugar scrub

Directions:

Scoop coconut oil into container.  Microwave until liquified.

Add in brown sugar, vanilla, and essential oil.

Pour in 8 oz glass mason jar.

By the way, if you are wondering why I have parchment paper under the lid of my coconut jar, I put it there during the Summer when the coconut oil melted and made a mess on the jar.

I experienced the healing benefits of the Raindrop Technique

This past weekend I learned the Raindrop Technique in a yurt surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens located in Northern San Diego County!  The Raindrop Technique was developed by Young Living Founder and CEO D Gary Young,

The Raindrop Technique is a blending of ancient traditions, intuitive wisdom, and pure essential oils that has helped several people along their journey.  It stimulates the body and mind, aids detoxification, and balances energy.

I had so much fun learning this technique and the Vita Flex Technique and can’t wait to help others experience this amazing technique.

My Thyroid Story

Here is a story that I haven’t shared with anyone. A few years ago while my husband and I were on a plane traveling back from our vacation to Florida, I had a major panic attack that I ending up being taken to the emergency room at an Irvine hospital. Besides the usual tests, they asked me if I had any thyroid issues. I told them that I was not aware of any issues. They ran tests and mentioned that it I was on the border of hypothyroidism. They recommended that I do a follow up with my primary care physician. She advised that I have hypothyroidism and suggested that I take synthroid. Being a health coach, I researched an alternative, holistic approach to synthroid. Every Google search I did, I came across Young Living’s Thyromin. I ordered it and found that it worked. I also use Endoflex Essential Oil. Last year when I did not take it, I found my thyroid to be on the border again. The reason why women have thyroid issues is because they do not get sufficient iodine in their diet. Kelp is a good source. Because table salt is refined and most women add sea salt to their dishes, they do not get iodine. Some seafood have iodine. Anyway , that is my thyroid story. I hope my story helps some one else.
