How to Find an Essential Oil Company You Can Trust

Aromatherapy has taken the wellness world by storm, and for good reason. From moisturizing your cuticles to positive breathing experience, essential oils have several awesome benefits.

Finding a Reputable Essential Oil Company

Like any popular product on the market, not all essential oils are created equal. You wouldn’t go to a restaurant without consulting Yelp or getting your haircut  without asking for references, right? You should approach wellness companies with the same caution.

Finding reputable companies can be difficult, though. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of traits to help you choose a company that’s making oils you can trust.

The Essential Oils Company Checklist

1. They’re Transparent About Where Their Oils Come From

Because essential oils can be easily contaminated, brand transparency is everything. A company should be able to tell you how they harvest and extract their ingredients and where each oil is sourced. They should also be able to tell you the Latin name of each oil so you know exactly what plant the oil came from.

For example, there are many different species of lavender. If you don’t know the specific kind being used in your oil, you may not be getting the experience you’re actually looking for.

2. Their Products Are Pure and Backed by Science

So, how are essential oils regulated to ensure they’re pure? Unfortunately, the honest answer is that there is no official or standardized regulatory agency for testing the purity of essential oils. But, it helps if a company has put together a detailed, comprehensive quality and safety process to ensure their oils haven’t been contaminated or altered in any way. A company willing to use third-party testing is even better!

I’ve research several essential oil companies over the years i.e. doTERRA, Young Living, Mountain Rose Herbs, Living Libations, Taspens Organics, and Melaleuca. Recently, I’ve been checking out Isagenix’s new line of essential oils.

3. Their Prices Aren’t Extreme

It can take a lot of plant matter to create one small bottle of essential oil, which is why some oils are more expensive than others. The price primarily depends on how readily available each plant is.

Frankincense oil, for instance, will be more expensive than lemon oil because lemons are much more readily available than frankincense. Frankincense requires a process in which sap is collected from a tree and then steam distilled, whereas lemon oil is cold pressed from lemon peels — a much easier process!

If a company is charging the same exact price for every single oil, you may need to question where they’re sourcing their plants.

Similarly, if a company is luring you in with the lowest prices on the market, you may need to consider if they’re being honest about the quality of their oils. On the other hand, just because a company has the most expensive oils doesn’t necessarily mean they have the best oils.  Note: check out my blog post about essential oils vs fragrance oils.

The key is understanding which oils are common and which are rare and checking bottle labels to determine oil quality.

Think You’re Ready to Choose?

Finding a company you trust  can be difficult, but at the end of the day, the more information a company is willing to share, the better. When a company is honest and forthcoming about their product every step of the way, you have everything you need to make an informed decision.

In conclusion, everyone has the essential oil company they like and would recommend, so I suggest doing your own research and find the best one for you.

Are you ready to attract abundance?

open ready to attract abundace

By shifting our attention to what we already enjoy in our lives uplifts our energy and vibration for attracting more good. This can work like magic! Even science has now established how positive emotions stimulate our system’s production of ‘feel good’ hormones, like serotonin and dopamine.

Daily practice of gratitude brings about a significant energetic shift that helps sustain a life- affirming flow of energy while enhancing our power of attracting greater abundance of love, fulfillment, wellness and prosperity.

Gratitude is not only a launching pad for more abundance, it’s a natural fuel for maintaining an optimistic outlook. If we study the lives of great historic figures, they commonly share a characteristic of optimism about the future. Research has also shown that looking to the future with positive expectancy is a common characteristic of healthy longevity (more than some particular diet or exercise, etc.). All this indicates that a grateful outlook is not only spiritually and mentally uplifting, it may even affect our physical health.

Making an attitude of gratitude an everyday habit can take whatever form suits your lifestyle. Here are some easy ways of uplifting your personal vibration with the practice of gratitude:

  • Keep a Gratitude/Happiness Journal – Give yourself a few minutes a day to jot down grateful feelings you have. First thing in the morning, write brief notes about experiences, achievements and relationships that have brought you happiness. Even on a not-so-good day, we can reflect on previous good in our lives or special moments/events we are looking forward to. In addition to the immediate lift that can give, directing our attention in this intentionally positive way is like building a mental muscle that supports our inner strength when faced with subsequent challenges.
  • Start your morning with gratitude for what you’d like to see this day hold. Vividly imagine positive events unfolding while holding grateful feelings about your good yet to come.
  • Always begin or close meditation practice with a grateful intention for the good in your life already present and yet to come. Bear in mind that practicing gratitude is not merely a mental exercise, it’s a literally empowering feeling, an emotive vibration that extends beyond mere words.
  • Use essential oils, in diffusion and direct application often! They are specifically designed to enhance these feelings.  I recommend Young Living Gratitude and Young Living Abundance oil blends. Make their use a part of your ongoing gratitude practice to discover a natural boost in outlook and energy!
  • Use Emotional Freedom Technique to create abundance.

How to Balance Your Chakras Using Essential Oils and Crystals

You are a energetic and electric being that sends signals and frequencies out on a second-to-second basis. One of the most basic and subtle energy systems is called your chakras, which are major energy points in your body. There are seven of them, starting at the base of your spine and continuing to the top of your head.

All of the seven chakras are important and interconnected. Usually, balancing one chakra will create change in another chakra. It is important to balance the root chakra first, before proceeding to the others, or you will lack the stability and rootedness necessary for true transformation and personal growth. You cannot grow and change unless you feel safe and secure.

Chakras can be imbalanced by becoming blocked (underactive) or overly intense (overactive).  When this happens, your being as a whole is imbalanced, often leading to illness and/or emotional blocks and creating an unhealthy environment.

Here’s how to balance your chakras using essential oils and crystals.

Crown Chakra

Crystal: Amethyst

Essential Oil: Lavender

The crown chakra is the seventh chakra at the top of the “chakra ladder,” which starts from the root (that grounds us on the Earth) and progresses upward to the Crown.

The energy of this chakra allows us to experience oneness with everyone and everything in nature. Both an amethyst crystal and lavender essential oil will help you connect to your inner consciousness.

By putting a small piece of amethyst under your pillow each night, and spraying a lavender mist on your sheets, you’ll simultaneously balance out your crown chakra and get an amazing night’s sleep!

Third Eye Chakra

Crystal: Lapis Lazuli

Essential Oil: Rosemary

The third-eye chakra is located just above the eyebrows in the forehead, and this is the area of the body where your “visionary abilities” emerge. It is known as the brow chakra, as it is located at the brow in the center of the forehead. The third-eye chakra meanings pertain to the concept of “seeing,” especially in a spiritual and psychic sense.

Having a stronger sixth chakra allows you to access your inner guidance easily, which comes from enhanced intuitive abilities. Meditate on a lapis lazuli while burning a rosemary candle to awaken your intuition.

Throat Chakra

Crystal: Blue Lace Agate
Essential Oil: Eucalyptus

The throat chakra is the voice of the body. It is a pressure valve that allows energy from the other chakras to be expressed. If it is out of balance or blocked, it can affect the health of the other chakras. When it is in balance, we can express what we think and what we feel.

Ritual bathing is cleansing and rejuvenating. Place a blue lace agate crystal on the side of the tub, and add in 10 drops of eucalyptus oil into your bath—this aroma therapeutic addition will help you speak your truth, and activate your ability to understand the unsaid.

Heart Chakra

Crystal: Rose Quartz

Essential Oil: Rose

The heart chakra is located in the heart region. When the heart chakra is balanced, you will have healthy self-esteem, spontaneity, a sense of humor, ability to make decisions, and make decisions and meet challenges. Imagine feeling like nothing can hurt you, and you are on top of all situations in your life—that is the provenance of the heart chakra.

Wear a malachite bracelet while you diffuse rose essential oil to promote compassion, love, and self-acceptance.

Solar Plexus Chakra

Crystal: Citrine

Essential Oil: Lemon

The solar-plexus is located just above the navel and below the rib cage. It is our energy, radiating vital life energy throughout our entire body. It is where our willpower comes from; our ability to achieve, self-esteem, raw emotions, and self-discipline. It is where we can have a mental understanding of our emotional self.

Use a citrine stone and lemon essential oil to accept your place in the universe, and create a great appreciation for all the people in your life. Inhaling lemon promotes healing, and helps combat insecurity.

Sacral Chakra

Crystal: Carnelian

Essential Oil: Orange

The sacral chakra is the second chakra. It is associated with the emotional body, sensuality, and creativity, while its element is water, characterized by flow and flexibility. The function of the sacral chakra is directed to the principle of pleasure. It’s found about three inches below the navel, at the center of your lower belly.
Reignite your passions and create an aphrodisiac blend with 3 drops each of orange blossom, ylang-ylang, rose, and sandalwood essential oils in one cup of grapeseed oil. Leave your piece of camelian (a crystal for life force and vitality) in the oil overnight to supercharge its properties.

Root Chakra

Crystal: Red Jasper

Essential Oil: Patchouli

The root chakra is the first chakra located at the base of the spine. It is literally “the root” of your being and establishes the deepest connections with your physical body, your environment, and the earth. Your fight-or-flight response is initiated from this chakra, such is its primal, animal nature. The energy of this chakra allows you to harness courage and resourcefulness.

Ground yourself, and rub the earthy scent of patchouli oil on your feet. Put a small piece of red jasper in your shoe to give you the stability and rootedness necessary for personal growth.

In Summary
Root Chakra draws energy from the earth’s magnetic core. It anchors our spirit in our worldly existence.

Sacral Chakra promotes our ability to enjoy life in physical ways.  It governs our well-being, our sense of deserving a good life, and our capacity to develop a sense of abundance.

Solar Plexus Chakra relates to self-value, confidence, self-esteem, and freedom of choice.  It reflects how we see ourselves and exercise our innate power.

Heart Chakra keeps the life force alive.  It moves love through our lives and shields our heart from emotional pain.

Throat Chakra directs the life force toward creativity, self-expression, truth, and integrity.  It controls our ability to communicate clearly.

Brow Chakra is the center of our innate intelligence.  It drives on the distilled wisdom of our losses and pain.  It sees meaning, truth, and freedom.

Crown Chakra is the center of bliss, beauty, and spirituality.  It allows us to deepen our connection with the source of our being.

With just a few simple ingredients, you can make your own moisturizing lip balm in under 5 minutes. You can also add a hint of color with leftovers from your favorite lipstick or blush! After you give this DIY a try, you’ll never go back to buying name brand lip balm again.

There are two primary components to the DIY lip balm: Beeswax and Coconut Oil. You can choose to just use these two ingredients and end up with a great lip balm on its own (just mix 1 part beeswax with 2 parts coconut oil). Or, you can add in other essential oils (like Vitamin E), honey, and even add peppermint.

1 1/2 tbsp Beeswax Pellets

1 Tbsp Coconut Oil

1 Tbsp Shea Butter

2 Tbsp Sweet Almond Oil

3 to 5 drops of  peppermint, citrus or your other favorite essential oils

In a double boiler, melt beeswax and add coconut oil, shea butter and almond oil.  Stir to mix thoroughly.  Remove heat and add essential oils.  Pour into lip balm tubes and let set for 24 hours.

Here’s what was used for my easy DIY lip balm:

  • 1 tsp. grated beeswax (packed down) or beeswax pellets
  • 2 tsp. coconut oil
  • 4-5 drops of Vitamin E oil
  • 1/2 tsp. honey
  • Optional: for colored lip balm, add in remnants of a favorite blush or lipstick – as little or as much as you desire!

This recipe will make enough to fill a couple of small lip gloss jars or tubes. Feel free to double the recipe or stick to the ratio of 1 part beeswax to 2 parts oil to make as much as your heart desires!

Tubes can be purchased through Amazon, Abundant Health, or AromaTools.
